Most of those who have studies communications and electronics or even management engineering were taught about AI for more than twenty years. However, I noticed that people are talking about AI as if it is a brand new issue, especially this year 2019. Therefore, I want to find out your reflections and insights about why AI is intentionally dealt as if it is new.

Most aspects of our lives are now touched by artificial intelligence in one way or another, from deciding what books or flights to buy online to whether our job applications are successful, whether we receive a bank loan, and even what treatment we receive for cancer.

As my opinion, because nowadays there are many methods of machine learning can be worked by modern hardware. Therefore, many people also think AI was machine learning, although it includes other areas: knowledge engineering, robotics...

I remember participating in a sommer school on AI in the late 80ies. At this time, there were two branches that yielded first successful applications: Expert systems, e. g. in the field of medical diagnosis, and neural networks, however with high demand on computing power during the learning phase. In all other fields, the attitude was: "Success is around the corner, just give us five more years."
I guess this attitude, seen in hindsight, is a little bit embarrassing, and that might be at least one of the reasons why some people don't like to look at the history of AI too closely.
Another reason might be a kind of "inflation" of the meaning of the term AI as used by the marketing departments in contrast to the use by serious researchers in the field. When a program analyses a customer's behavior and controls the advertisements accordingly, it does nothing more than the famous program Eliza in the mid-60ies. (It had a conversation with a user via keyboard and screen, and gave the uninitiated user the impression of meaningful replies by plugging keywords used by the human into its answers, in a syntactically correct way.)
While this program was an interesting achievement at that time, and, with the Turing test in mind, might be seen as a little step toward AI, I don't think that anyone called it seriously an AI application. But I guess that today, any program with adaptive behavior is easily advertised as "AI", and an honest look on history would reveal the imposture.

Let me share with you, Dr Salaheldin, a quote by Pedro Domingos, "People worry that computers will get too smart and take over the world, but the real problem is that they're too stupid and they've already taken over the world." The way we see artificial intelligence over the last 8-10 years is completely different from the ideas we draw in the late 80s and early 90ds. Let me share with you how we use artificial intelligence and "Deep Learning" in medicine. The reason for such change and developments is related to our progress in computer sciences and computer programming, digital imaging, and other fields such as endoscopy, magnetic resonance imaging and computerized tomography. We can now use a subdivision of artificial intelligence and deep Learning known as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in making a computer-based diagnosis of diseases. The new machine-learning could make such diagnosis from endoscopy images, pathological images or radiological images. I enclose one of my recent papers for more information.

Well, General Artificial Intelligence has not yet been done correctly and (according to all the experts) does not exist yet. The added perspectives/"ingredients" needed are what people are TRYING to talk about as new. I dont´s really know why. If we think that Artificial Inteligence is a theme composed by two others, Intelligence and artifact, that means modelling an artifact (how Nobert Simon said in a book entitled 'The Science of Artificial" : "everything what is man-made" based on their cognitive and mechanics capabilities ) with what we humans beings define as Intelligence (one way to define intelligence is the capacity for logic, understanding, self-awareness, learning, emotional knowledge, reasoning, planning, creativity, critical thinking, stablishing of relationships, problem solving and so on).
Builting an artifact that exhibit these kinds of characteristics in differents degrees, means we artificialized characteristics that define intelligence, in my point of view, creating the concept of Artificial Intelligence. Is important to point that is possible think about degree of intelligence based on entropy. With less using of energy, matter or information to act or react more intelligent the artifact is.
