Because the adoption of white/westernised values is essential for survival, particularly in settler-colonial societies. As a result, non-white peoples' ways of being, doing and knowing [ontology/methodology/epistemology] are ultimately affected; compromised by the contemporary hegemony of westernised epistemic and axiological dominance. The normativity enjoyed by white supremacy renders it invisible to all but the most critical thinkers. Hence, through adapting to survive in the white world, we become complicit with the perpetuation of white supremacy, simply through acquiescence. Add to this the covert assimilation tactics underpinning notions of equity, diversity and inclusion; and the axiomatic qualities of white supremacy in day-to-day functioning start to become overtly evident. The question is, how do we create a framework that doesn't impose the necessity of conforming to white power structures?
