I am designing a laser for Q-switched operation at 2050-2080 nm. I had planned on resonantly pumping a Ho:YAG laser but it may be less expensive (or better in some other way) to pump a (Tm, Ho):YAG laser at 780 nm. But what people have recommended is a (Cr, Tm, Ho):YAG laser. Are there advantages to diode-pumping CTH:YAG at 780 instead of Ho:YAG at 1950?
