I don't know if this is a overall accepted notion -being interested in working in a Bank- all over the World though one of the reasons can be that it appears as a decent job as a white collar worker. Working in a corporation with rules and standards and somehow with specific working hours might appear as a good starting point for a career.

Again, it depends on the bank (whether small or big) but learning new skills and getting training can be a good investment for the future jobs.
