When a particular topic is searched for , full texts are not available. My request is to upload the entire content for the benefit of other researchers. This will enable more access, views, citation, and other benefits.
Full texts can be uploaded only in the case of open-access publications, i.e. when copyright allows. Other reasons why users do not upload full texts are discussed here:
It is mainly because of the journal policy. The majority of the journals sell the articles and do not, therefore, permit authors to share them on such platforms. If the journal is from an open access journal, then it will be shared fully. There could be other author-specific reasons though.
I concur with Dr. Wolfgang R. Dick. Authors can upload the full text on social media or on any platform in the event that the journal is open-access or the author has paid for the same, contingent upon the journal and its approach.
Agree with the previous answers completely...sometimes even if the author wants to make his full article public, he is unable to do so because he himself has to pay for the full text. The money to be paid is not much but it is silly not to able to see your own article online after it gets published. In other cases, the journal has the copyright to the article and does not allow it to be shared on public platforms like ResearchGate and Google scholar.
That would have been ideal situation really. But its utopian in this money driven commercial world & not feasible. Unless we have copyright (either bought or gifted) cant post everything. Regards
I also agree with the above answers. The authors can't share the full text as the copyright lies with the journal for certain period(Embargo period) of 12 months or above based on individual journals. After that, the authors can share the full text.
Very simple: because you prefer to publish and "exploit" the results, and so on. slowly; doing a "scientific striptease" of them and, thus, obtain the flattering result of getting more publications, if one is skilled in such usual practice ... in fact, they have done so and do many Nobeles awards
Sadly the initial idea driving the internet of free unrestricted availability of knowledge has become a dream and the present system is here to stay. The journal conditions regarding open access publications are explicit, clear and subject to legal address if broken. Of course full pre publication drafts of the paper can be uploaded, but a great deal can happen to a paper between submission and publication. If your institution cannot provide you free access to the required paper, then my top tip in these circumstances is always to email the named author directly, congratulate him/her on the paper and politely ask if I can be sent a copy.
I fully agree with your views Professor Damodaran Swaminathan. If you are posting your publications it has to be the full publication. Otherwise your publications are no use to the others.
