Dual phase steel can be produced by directly quenching to room temperature from inter-critical temperature range. Then why overaging treatment is given in continious annealing line in steel industries for production of dual phase steel.

Although DP Steel can be produced by directly quenching from intercritical tempreture to room tempreture, different time and tempreture of overaging would be really affected UTS, elongation and especially yield point behavior of DP Steels. This article could be helpful.
Because quenching to room temperature before artificial aging disrupts the continuity of the process. In other words, it is much simpler to quench to aging temperature and hold the product isothermally then to first quench it to RT and then heat it up to the aging temperature. This way, the process is faster and less expensive because not reheat is required.

Actually it is not necessary to obtain dual phase structure, but it provides good flatness compared to the sheet directly quenched to room temperature.
