There have been several blog posts which discuss the content with detailed review of literature and insightful points. Why some people choose to spend so much time in writing a blog article when the same effort could be utilized for writing a review article?

To write a blog article, you don't get any credits to your publications. But as generally seen, many writers of blogs spend a lot of time in reviewing literature to get maximum audience by providing authentic information. Is a blog only meant for advertising and promotion purposes, specially if you are a researcher?

Under what conditions would you choose to write a blog post instead of a review article? Shouldn't blogs be also considered as publications?
