The moment when the earthquake was felt by people in north India
(Delhi).They immediately recalled as Nepal earthquake. There would be large scale distruction in epicenter wherever it is located. Only later it was realized that the earthquake is weaker in magnitude and also located at a much great distance as compare to Nepal.
It was felt very strongly in Delhi and with a very prolonged time. What are the reasons behind it ?
It is probably a deep earthquake and the shaking extends far away. Don't forget there are many mountains in between and their roots extend deep and in many directions.
Michael Issigonis Thanks a lot for sharing your ideas and thoughts. From my point of view, shall I consider in this way:
1) The origin of the epicenter was located very deeper about 212 km deep
from surface of earth crust and as you compare it with Nepal epicenter
is very near to the surface of earth about 10 -12 km.
2) These kinds of deep earthquakes fundamentally change the nature of
tremors that will go out. What happen to this like, energy dissipated
very fast. Therefore, deep earthquakes carry much lesser energy by the
time reaches to the earth surfaces. They also have a tendency to spread
out because when they originate and then starts moving in a concentric
circles and in a conical shapes and therefore by the time when they
reaches to the surface they covered a large surface area and that’s the
reason why we felted more strongly even though the epicenter having
a distance of 1300 km's away.
