Food manufacturers's waste water might contain significant amount of organic matter(High BOD). This results in lowering of dissolved oxygen or anoxic condition of the system and the organic matter may undergo anaerobic bio-degradation. Food origin organic matter contains essential elements like Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorous etc. The nitrogenous component is converted to Ammonia in this reducing environment by the anaerobic bacterial community. Besides, other reducible products like CH4, PH3 and H2S might also be produced.
