The sap from green stem and leaf of Impatiens balsamina is fingernail orange or light brown in color. Is it due to some forms of carotenoids/anthocyanins?
The sap from leaves and stem of Impateins balsamina contains hennotannic acid (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthaquinone) which is basically a red orange dye, this reacts with the keratin protein and imparts orange colour on fingernails and skin, it is used as substitute of henna in northern Indian states.
