Why is it not recommended to reconstitute Hoechst dyes in PBS?

Just curious of the above. This was indicated on the Thermofisher/Invitrogen website.

"Dissolving Hoechst dye in PBS is not recommended, but phosphate-containing buffers may be used with dilute solutions of the dye. "

Any reasons for the above?

It's probably because the dye has relatively low solubility in PBS. The solubility is quite high in distilled water, however, at least for Hoechst 33342, if memory serves.
