I have seen in recent literature that LiOH is preferencialy used to synthesized NCM811 whereas we can either use Li2CO3 or LiOH to synthesize NCM111 and 622. Is there any parasitic reactions with carbonate when nickel content is high ?
In terms of solution based synthesis, LiOH is highly preferable as it has higher solubility than Li2CO3. In case of solid state synthesis, LiOH can decompose at lower temperatures than Li2CO3, it speedup the reaction with reduced heat and energy.
As our knowledge, the heat-treatment temperature is reduced by increasing Ni content in NCM materials. When you check the boiling point of each precursors(LiOH, Li2CO3), LiOH is lower than Li2CO3. This is reason of why we using the LiOH precursor for NCM 811.
