The works developed in agriculture world are focused on studies of soil, insects, weeds, better seeds and irrigation. However, when the management is returned to the farmer, there are no studies that have this application.
Modern agriculture need good management. that is why some western universities already include this subject among their study curriculum. with the new trend in agriculture trade, market-oriented production needs management. So, sooner or later this will be one of the basic elements in agricultural studies.
The calculation of things or items involved management are not feasible practically moreover, the persons/ farmers engaged in this work are illiterate. the factors involved in management varies as land, location, holding, area so it is very deficult
With the intensive use of land, this situation is changing, the development of agricultural modernization cannot be separated from the drive of management.
A wide variety of factors that can either motivate or hinder a farmer to adopt a sustainable agriculture practices depends on the social and psycho-social conditions of the workplace, the leadership style of superiors, the relationships, the nature of work, the decision of the farmer, their individual differences (creative personality, gender, education, motivation, self-efficacy, and openness to experiments). Hence farm management is quite tricky than other organizations.
Chapter INNOVATION IN AGRICULTURE IN THE ASPECT OF SOCIAL AND COMMUN...
Dear Mr. Fernando Henrique Lermen ,The impact of modernization and development is very fast in all sectors, so that public interest in agriculture has diminished, in Indonesia more and more agricultural land has turned its function into housing and offices and has even become a freeway. a profession that is increasingly being eliminated by many people, especially the younger generation. the younger generation now prefers to work with a little energy but quickly makes a lot of money.
I can speak for my country, Costa Rica. The University of Costa Rica has a College of Agricultural Science divided in Agronomy (Crop Science, Soil Science and Horticulture, Plant Pathology and Entomology all in one), Zootechnology (all animal science), Food Technology and Agricultural Economics and Agro-business Department. The last one has a professional Master Degree in Agro-entrepreneurship Management.
You can check www.gerenciaagro.ucr.ac.cr . I suppose there must be something similar in other countries.
For the local agricultural companies management is very important, more and more managers studied Agricultural Sconomics or are studying this master or MBAs. But when you go to the low income farmers, access to this knowledge is scarce.
Hi Fernando, you may be right, but I do not agree fully with you. I can cite example of Punjab state of India where paddy and wheat are cultivated on quite large area (more than 3.0 million ha) and the average productivity of paddy and wheat is around 6.5 and 5.0 tonnes per ha, respectively. The reason is farmers are very progressive, familiar with latest production and protection technologies developed by the Punjab Agricultural University. Yes, of course there are some grey areas where the management of some diseases, insects and weeds is scarce and some times climate adversaries also pose difficulties for management.
I thank all researchers for their contributions. However, my question was more related to studies that deal with what is perceived value by the customer, and what he really demands for agricultural management to work.
I only found in the literature a vast amount of work related to pests, land use and weeds. In the field where I work, the drying and storage of grains (postharvest) has a lot of waste, both products and monetary, but in Brazil at least there are no incentives for improvements in the sector, the same was noted in the literature.
Then her you go, take this beast by the horns! If a field is almost empty, is time for someone to take over it and demonstrate the usefulness of another perspective and expertise to improve.
Management is gaining interests when the field in concern is growing and gaining more interests. So concerning agriculture, as many of the colleagues said, it is diminish in many countries and the agricultural lands is converted to forests of concrete.
However, with modern educated farmers, there is a chance to get this science of management involved specially with the fact that many of them try to get the certificates of GAP in order to open new markets for their products. this will improve the future agriculture and its management science.
Modern agriculture need good management. that is why some western universities already include this subject among their study curriculum. with the new trend in agriculture trade, market-oriented production needs management. So, sooner or later this will be one of the basic elements in agricultural studies.
