Constant voltage power source is said to have better control over the parameters in a mechanised process. But still why do we prefer CC power source for SAW?
I agree with previous answer. Something to add - basically, both CC and CV can be used with SAW. The determining factors as to which output type is best are generally electrode diameter, travel speed and size of weld puddle. With semi-automatic SAW, CV is the preferred type of output.

@marcio: if self regulation could be achieved with CC power source itself then why do we need CV?
Current will affect wleding fusion and penetration. Stable current is important to provide defect free
The melt flow in cc current is laminar and calm,so the defects ca not be appear.
It is very difficult to maintain stable arc length during SAW welding. If arc length unstable then we get various bead geometry and penetration . That is not suitable for a good welding... I thinks this is the reason
