With all respect to your opinion, but I do not agree with you, especially in developing or corrupt societies, the difference between them is sometimes just an opportunity
I spent about 7 years in academy and other 10 in industry and I meet and work with many scientists belonging to both words and I do not think that one is better than the others but I think that the aim of ttheir work is quite different and therefore this allow to them to develop different skills...
academic reseacher generally has a broad vision in terms of scientific technologies but they are more interested to publish and they donot take care if their finding can be translated in drugs or assays that can really have an impact in the life of the people on the contrary due to the matrix organization of many companies, the industrial reseacher are very specialized and concretes but some times not so able to imagine solutions that can coming for contaminations with other fields . and less able to work in context with budget limitations
I think academic researchers is better due to all faciliteices they have , but if non-academic have the spirit of sacrifay and entrepreneur orientation...... he will be the better.
Famous American Physicist Dr. Irving Langmuir has worked as an engineer of General Electorics Co.. I am now considering that he is the best Nobel laureate of USA.
Famous Dutch Physicist Dr. Johannes Diderik van der Waals has studied Physics by himself. He has been a teacher at a middle school. I am now considering that he is the best Nobel laureate of The Netherlands.
Their considerations have been very important, and I can have published the Protein-determination method by utilizing the RP-HPLC with photometric detection (please see file; Lysozyme by RP-HPLC).
Then, I do not enter any Scientific Societies at all (please see my "Info" page of this RG site).
By the way, I have gotten angry with the American Psychiatric Association/APA, since this Academy has once declared in the old days that "Black should be diagnosed as Madness and/or Dementia" (from Wikipedia).
I have worked for 6 years in Shimadzu Co. and 30 years in Academic places. An Engineer of HPLC Mr Tomio Fujita of Shimadzu Co. is clever that the study of Polysaccharide is important or better than the study of DNA, and now Glyco-Medicine is becoming the most important issue (please see file; Dr. Fujita Chondroitin). Recently, polysaccharide Fucoidan (Sulphated Poly-L-Fucose) has been found to be the safe and powerful Polysaccharide-drug for Liver Cancer (please see file; HepG2 Fucoidan).
Therefore, I have recently published an article for Human Health, which has only one non-academic researcher or non M.D. (please see file; Feed by Measure). This article has used the opinion of Famous Feudal Retainer Mr Ekken Kaibara (clansman of Kuroda-Han, Fukuoka) as reference. He has said that “Hara-hachibun-me ni Isha-irazu (Taking a moderate amount of foodstuffs is rejecting the physician)” in his handwritten book “Youjoh-Kun (Instruction to Preserve the Health)” in 1712. As a reference, a portrait of Mr Ekken Kaibara has been shown (please see file; Ekken Kaibara).
