Why do senior academics always bully their younger colleague in terms of authors listing in a research paper?

Based on experience, I have observed that senior academics always put their names first in an article that they do not contribute significantly. Is this not stealing of intellectual properties? If no, kindly justify your reason(s).

For fear that their seniority will be taken away from them or fear of loosing credits to their younger colleagues. But great seniors always coach their younger colleagues to take lead.
