I assume that you used XRD for this study. In a XRD diffractogram, a left-hand side peak corresponds to greater d-spacing than a right-hand side peak. Therefore, you were expecting wrong for the peak to move right if you were to observe increased d-spacing. In this case, you would observe the diffractogram peak to move towards the left side to see increased d-spacing.
