Researchers Hamid Hassanpour and Amin Parsaei used Gaussian Wavelet for fetal QRS detection since the fetal ECG and Gaussian wavelet are morphologically similar. This will provide the best experimental results.

In general, good wavelet basis work well with signals similar tto them. Probably the authors tested and compared the results with many Wavelets, and found the Gaussian better than the others.
