At our International School, the curricula includes many courses that take students on field trips and sites visits. These yield an experiential process that turns the surrounding landscape, the cities and communities into a performative state, as per J.L. Austin's linguistics interpretations. I am specifically searching for others' experience with foreign students and their host country while traversing the curriculum.

Before becoming a historian, which I did after 40 years in medicine both as a clinical professor and a clinician in practice, the teaching of students and residents indeed followed such a course. In the exploration for my question I was looking at cultural and historical subject matter. These tend to be in a different realm.

Also articles published in Academic Medicine, Medical Education, Medical Teacher, BMC Medical Education, Advances in Health Sciences Education, and Teaching and Learning in Medicine will help. However, from my long experience, I believe that with the introduction of PBL in medical and allied health schools such move more or less gradually dominated the picture of teaching in the clinical years. However, this is not the rule, and it depends on the culture embedded in teaching in schools/departments.
