If you are refering to a Financial corporation - then I would pick COBOL/CICS/DB2 as the best technology to learn. Java and PHP are toys for boys.

Any MNC will ask for many years of experience in those languages before giving you a COBOL/CICS/DB2 job. I really suggest JAVA, especially in backend solutions (servlets) . PHP is barely used in big companies.
