I am conducting a within participants study to test whether we Attend more strongly to verbal or nonverbal communication. Participants will watch ten videos, 5 which show a conversation whereby someone’s verbal behaviour does not match their nonverbal, and five where they do (these will be in a random order). They will then have to rate on a Likert scale whether they believed the confederate was happy/sad, anxious/confident etc.
What statiistical test should I use to analyse this data?

This can easily be done with an independent sample t-test. If you wish to test group differences on the outcome while controlling for covariates, you could look at a multiple regression with the grouping variable as an IV and covariates as predictors in the model. Hope this helps.
Although I am using a likert scale, does this not mean I am to use nonparametric tests when analysing the data?
