Is the teacher profile the same that it was ten years ago??? What kind of personal characteristics are important when working with people with different interests, beliefs, perspectivs, goals, etc
It is difficult for oneself, to balance ICT with Education due to the changing nature belonging to the evolution life cycle within the learning process. Attitude and outlook are important components of disposition; - Social Media, can and does make learning interesting for the students; however, where is the cut off point for us as lecturers to incorporate all these new components, I.e. embedding twitter, facebook, bebo, into the curriculum to allow students to use mobile devices to answer questions off the board. Or adjusting are own knowledge and capabilities to test different pedagogical, andragogy and heutagogy.
Oneself, must be confident and capable of adjusting their own abilities to make learning educational and entertaining while capturing the audience needs. Hope that helps. Rob.
Hello Valentina, I agree with Rob, technology is high on the list, and so is having an open disposition to teaching and learning. I believe it is important to be motivated to engage in lifelong learning, so as to update skills and competencies as needs go.
Whilst the tools that a teacher may use have changed (IWB instead of whiteboards, graphics calculators rather than calculators etc) in my view the personal dispositions that teachers need haven't changed greatly in recent times. Teachers still need to establish a connection with the students they teach, develop a rapport with them so that any behaviour management can be done in a supportive rather than punitive way, and then plan and deliver sound, engaging educational experiences for them. It was such when I started teaching over 30 years ago and it remains just as true today.
