Data mining is a process of analyzing databases to generate information. What are the problems which data maining generally solves?

Data Mining helps us in finding the hidden insights in the data we have in hand. For example, if we have a historical data of climate, let's say of about 60 years, using data mining approaches we may be able to forecast of a particular day in present. There is multitude of examples in which data mining is being incorporated, some of the major fields are Healthcare, online social networks, weather forecasting etc.
