I am planning to test some wick-samplers in order to collect soil solution in some Andisols. In several researches it is mentioned that the material used as wick, corresponds to fiberglass, of one specific brand (Pepperrel). I have my doubts about this, since in industrial processes normally some additives are added and usually this information is not available, so correcting the possible inputs coming from the wick could be troublesome.
Do you know if there is a manufacturer of this type of materials (fiberglass wick), but in order to be used in more scientific purposes?
There are many company in India and China are preparing fiber glass wicks. IndiaMart also producing Lamp Wicks. The basic principles are the aqueous soil extracts were percolated through the wicks and changes in effluent solution pH, dissolved inorganic carbon, anions and major cations , and trace metals including rare earth elements can be monitored by glass wicks. The soil leachet collected by the wicks are good to use mainly for nitrate leaching and alkaline and alkaline earth cations. It is a suitable tool to collect soil solutions and that it could help to assess nitrate leaching losses in various ecological or cropping conditions.
