If I where you I may choose Innovation and competitiveness because nowadays Innovation and competitiveness could save some countries and rescue them from global financial and economic crisis.
A PhD has to be original and add to the knowledge in a selected topic. And whether you are staying in academia or want to branch out into business, it also is useful if it establishes your credentials as an expert.
Since covid-19 has changed the face of most economies it would be interesting to predict whether globalization will shrink or expand when the effects of the pandemic subside.
To make the research manageable I would limit the enquiry to one global market… for example energy… asking the question as to whether fossil-based fuels will survive – and whether SMEs could take a slice of the market.
Your hypothesis would be along the lines that SMEs, using innovation and technology could have the ability to take on the goliaths of the world.
Of course, you would need to solve the riddles of
a) What they would need to do to persuade politicians to legislate to enable them to enter this market.
b) Where they could obtain sufficient financial backing and resources
Good luck with your research.
All of your topics seem very interesting. Maybe you should make your decision based on research data availability. This seems to be a large difficulty for number of Ph.D. students.
Thanks everyone!. Mirna Leko Šimić Thanks. I think its best to narrow down to a sector/segment of SME and In a defined emerging country, particularly in Africa. This in my view should help to easily define research questions, data need and data sources.
Ladi Daodu be convinced of data availability before you narrow down your research interest. In particularly, data on SMEs in Africa may be a challenge unless you may want to limit yourself to only primary data
Globalization and sustainability of SMEs - the critical role of business analytics. The topic is current and combines a few topics - Globalization, SMEs and business analytics. How business analytics can help SMEs to benefit from globalization.
