I will do a test on 4 stroke engine (Renault) (gasoline engine) to study its characteristics, and I'm going to use several rating of gasoline; 88 - 9 - 92 - 95 - 98
But there are two methods to determine the gasoline rating: Research Octane Number & Motor Octane Number.
So, I will ask the refinery to give me gasoline samples based on one of two methods.
Europe, middle east and Australia,etc.. rely on RON. while USA relies on Anti-knock Index which is (RON+MON)/2. so all what we see in fuel stations is RON
Anti-knock index is better , As working in experiment if RON and MON value is available, it will be easy for studying the chemical kinetics mechanism of the surrogates. RON , MON and surrogate (%) will help in simulating the results better. Hence both the values are required.

I would think using RON number is better.
You can also add a case into your experiment using pure isooctane, with RON of 100.
