The estimation of runoff coefficient essentially requires segregation of measured stream flow into direct runoff and base flow parts. However, many techniques such as graphical and empirical (using digital filters) have been suggested by some researchers. Which technique/s is/are more robust/efficient in estimation of base flow from measured stream flow time series, especially for perennial streams in tropical climate?

As I'm sure you recognize, there can be some subjectivity to this, and it can be difficult to avoid since rainfall/runoff/baseflow physiographic relationships vary so widely geographically.
