Sol gel technique is a promising low-temperature route which provides good homogeneity for the preparation of metallic nanoparticles in thin coatings in a thermally stable dielectric solid oxide matrix such as SiO2.
Although sol-gel method for the synthesis of NPs is better for control the size and morphology of the NPs, combustion is also promising route for fabrication of some NPs, such as metal oxides. Therefor, I think , it depends on the kind of NPs you're going to synthesize.
