I am working on the efficacy of certain insecticides against sucking pests of okra under field condition and want to calculate corrected motality. please give your suggestions.
I agree completely with Prof. Tawfeq. It is so difficult to correct the mortality in the field. How we will know the exact natural mortality in the field. Thus, so easily, just use the control treatment and insecticidal treatments, and compere them.
In field conditions, the number of insects is mostly different in different plots. H&T formula takes care of not only the control and treatment numbers but also the pre-count in control and treatment which is likely to reflect in counts post treatment.
I prefer H&T.
Direct comparison is also good without taking in to account the pre-counts.
you can calculate corrected efficacy % according to Abbott, Henderson & Tilton, Schneider-Orelli or Sun-Shepard formulas.
The selection of appropriate formula is depending on two factors: 1-Trial condition (infestation or population stability and homogeneity). 2-The data in your hand (live individuals or mortality %).
