Autoclaved aerated concrete (aerated concrete), which is called AAC for short in the world, is a special type of lightweight porous concrete that is mainly made of materials based on silica, cement and lime. The product, now called ACC, has been developed in Sweden for the last 70 years. This product includes two main processes of creating porosity in the slurry of a mixture of cement, lime and silica powder and processing the resulting concrete by autoclave. Adhesives, which are mainly cement and lime, react with silica materials in the autoclave process to produce hydrated calcium silicates.
The porous structure of ACC, which is formed due to the reaction of free lime from cement, lime and aluminum powder compounds, has suitable thermal properties (thermal insulation) as well as a higher bulk density ratio than other types of concrete.
The product obtained after autoclaving does not require further processing and the produced parts can be used after cooling.
Due to the fact that aerated concrete has low weight and suitable strength of non-builders, its main applications include lightweight building blocks for the construction of partition walls, as well as reinforced aerated concrete components for non-load-bearing applications such as roof filler panels and non-load-bearing walls.
