In a geochemical book that mentions that sodic alkali basalts are relatively high TiO2 and in contrast potassic alkali basalts are characterized by low TiO2 content. I wonder which factors govern the content of TiO2 in basalts?
The concentration of TiO2 is a function of temperature and melt
composition. Furthermore, both trace element and and isotopic composition of sodic alkali basalts indicate that their parental magmas were produced by relatively small degree of melting which could concentrate TiO2 as restite associations.
