I will need to do deep water sampling (preferably at different depths with some number of replicates) firstly in lake and reservoirs and then in marine water. I am currently looking for deep water sampling equipments, but am not quite sure what fits best into all these different sampling areas (both shallow and deep water). I am interested in collecting both vertebrates and invertebrates, since the project I am involved in is related to biodiversity assessment and monitoring. Any suggestions are welcome.

I am working on the freshwater molluscan diversity, during the collection i am also facing the same problem of the animal collection from the depth. But using of the Grabs or dredges are helpful to overcome the problem of depth collection. depending on the nature of the habitat for eg. at hard bottom Liebman core sampler and Peterson's grab are used, at sandy bottom Ekman dredge is used. You refer the methodology of the Macan (1958), APHA, WPCF, AWWA (1981), for the confirmation of the instrument to be utilized as per the habitat and the status of the bottom of the collection sites. I think this information will help you to confirm the use of the instrument at deep water sampling.
I think you need a copy of methods in hydrobiology by JURGEN SCHWOERBEL. with the aid of bottom water bottle, you should be able to take water samples at different depths
I completed the first field work in a reservoir, of which the maximum depth was 2 meters only. The depth is a relative issue, depends on where we want to collect our samples, but I guess it will range between 1-6 meters. I used a simple water sampler, as can be seen here: http://www.wildco.com/images/P/Beta_TT_Horiz-07.jpg. It only allows us to collect water samples (whole fish is not likely in that case), as a first step I assume it should be fair enough.
Hello, for sampling invertebrates from the bottom of reservoirs we also use an Ekman dredge, as mentioned before. Depending on the sediment this is an applicable methode to get information concerning the invertebrate community living in the substrate in deeper areas. Best regards
