I am trying to make cylindrical die for cold compaction of SS-316L powder at 200 MPa but i am confused with material of die.
AISI M2; AISI M4; or AISI D2.
HRC 60-64.
AISI H13 is for hot forming processes.
Agree with daniel that AISI H13 is hot die steel but it works very well for cold processes also while heat treated to 44-46 HRC. This grade also have the bigher toughness value than the M2,M4 and D2 heat treated to 60-64HRC.
Yes, you can use any of the referred to above steels. If you have the opportunity, you can also make WC inserts (with green part dimensions) for both mould and puches. This gives you a more accurate dimension control along with the tool use and life (having less tool wear). We use this approach and it works perfectly. However, as you are using low compaction pressure, it can be a more expensive way.
