Think about vulcanoes and volatile gases or dusts emitted by them. These gases (escpecially CH4 and N2O) are extremely powerful greenhouse gases, reaching (for some kind of eruptions) stratosphere and entering the global wind circulation.

See for example the Snowball Earth theory (Sir Douglas Mawson ). If I remember well, when Rodinia broke up in the Neoproterozoic caused a series of rifts and volcanoes to activate causing the Earth crusts to be rich in Basaltic rocks, which covered the granitic ones. These, weathered and eroded by climatic agents reached the oceans. Their minerals absorbed the oceanic CO2 and accumulated on the oceanic floor. The oceans started to absorb atmospheric CO2, weakening the greenhouse effect and driving a massive global cooling.

It is still debated, but it might give you an idea of climate change due to tectonics.

Very good answer from Nic, relevant over both short and long time scales. Over longer time frames, the positioning of continental plates near the poles, over the poles, or away from them can also mean that glaciation is or is not possible. Over short time frames, when simply discussing the current anthropogenically-driven warming, people tend to ignore how much volcanic activities can contribute, but this contribution is far from negligible.

I think that you are addressing an important issue. While almost everything is inter-related, it is important to find key features. Despite emitting GHG gas like CH4, volcanism contributes negatively to global warming. Dust has an effect described in "nuclear winter" model. The periods of intensive volcanic activity were accompanied with decline of global temperature. It is important to track different factors that influence climate change, make the whole picture and then to select those where we, humans, can act.

As for climate change, there is widespread belief among economists (and perhaps some geophysicists) that only humans are responsible for current climate change. In particular, it is very important to understand what was triggering the change from global warming to global cooling (observed 4 times in the last 500,000 years). Could it be changing volcanic activity?

Plate tectonics deals with the movement of plates, rifting and collision of plates. A plate through its long history and long travelling has passed through different climates. Example of Indo-Pak plate.It started its travelling from Madgasker Africa and reached and collided with Eurasian plate by passing different chronological events like Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic. It looks me that plate tectonics does not impart a direct impact on climate change rather it has to pass through different climates during its history.

As Ijaz told..passing through different climates ...whether it is applicable in present day scenario? If it is YES then my question make some sense.Lets have discussion

Plate tectonic is an extremely slow process compared with industrialisation. Therefore its direct influence (i.e. moving continents) is negligible. Volcanism as a 'side effect' of plate tectonic might have a bigger influence.

But we should not forget the scales, especially the time scale: the main part of recent climate change occurred in the last centuries after industrialisation - this part is definitively man made.

Considering long time scales (billions of years) there is a different picture: if plate tectonic forms a super-continent there will be a huge dessert in the middle of it, simply because the wind cannot transport the water over such long distances...

But maybe we should ask the question of climate change in a different way: We must ask how many increase of temperature we can survive (both, as civilization and as species). Then we must do whatever we can to keep temperature increase below the limit - regardless if the reasons are natural or man made. And we should note that climate could become unstable when it changes that rapidly like now...

As you said the scale of tectonic movement may be small for the time being. However, the change in isostasy is influencing climate change..eg: in poles...(personal opinion)

Regarding the temperature we can survive..

I think it depend on which part of earth we are belonging..As per recent studies change in weather is causing the release of year old virus and causing different viral infections..

so it is not exactly the temperature...the things associated with that like virus or things which are yet to come out of the veil.
