You don't specify the age group but there has been evidence for many many years on teaching and learning in general that shows that people learn best when actively, physically engaged and able to make discoveries rather than simply being instructed, especially in music which is after all something you 'do' and not just an idea. There are many publications on teaching and learning theory in general. Your target group appears to be in secondary or tertiary education. One of the biggest challenges for the teacher in this situation is the very different needs and interests of students who already have a high degree of sophisticated knowledge and know-how and those who do not, especially during a course of weekly classes which is not at all the same as a one-off workshop or project so the question of aims and outcomes of the lessons might be an important part of the study.
