I have been accepted for conference presentation in Japan, but they dont cover my travel and staying expenses. Can you advise me on how to get my expenses cover?
Abel - does your institution not offer a standard 'one-off' part contribution for conference? Often it's around $1,000 as long as you have presentation confirmation. Other than that, some granting bodies offer travel/conference payments - but you would have to trawl your general discipline resources for those - and they are not that common. They normally require a fair bit of pre-planing as well. I use my College consultancy fund (external consultancy), if I am not a keynote speaker and my fees are already paid for, but not everyone has a consultancy fund.
I have lost count of the number of such invitations I have had. Depends who the conference organisers are, and whether they charge fees for attendance. I have sometimes successfully argued that they should at least cover my travel, and 'donated' my expertise. If they are paying you for your presentation, then it may be worthwhile to use these funds for travel, and treat it as an investment for the future, raising your personal visibility. I sometimes found such a personal sacrifice worth making. If it is not worth making, I would decline the offer with an explanation.
If you are from India University Grants Commission may provides travel grants once in three years but you have to submit your proposal well in before conference date. UGC require invitation letter and related documents of conference further you search the site www.ugc.ac.in.
