Recently i'm studying fluorescent nano-particles for detection of bacteria using fluorescence spectroscopy. When i'm searching literature for this ,i was observed that some papers reported fluorescence enhancement and some papers reported fluorescence quenching. I'm confusing about this.
Is it bacterial auto-fluorescence may be influence on it. If bacteria have fluorescence why fluorescence is decreasing when it is conjugate with fluroscent nano material.
I think it would depend on what fluorophore was being used i each case, and on what process was being used for detecting the bacteria.

Sir as you suggesting , A or B depends on fluorophore . But if by adding fluorescent nano-material to cells if it quenching the Fluorescence of material how it can be used for Fluorescence imaging. And also i read that same material (but different groups) reported some one enhancement and quenching ,the difference is surface modified groups. Please can you calrify
