When one asks a question about "philosophy", how does one know what "aspect of philosophy" one is referring to?
Take the example of the question, "Can philosophy help the future direction of science?" What "aspect of philosophy" is being referred to? What does the question mean?

it is difficult to understand your question, perhaps it is more philosophical then scientific in nature?
Philosophy is about meaning, science is about relationship.
It is normal to segment science into different areas of research as too simplified situation need an elaborate settings to performe experiments. In philosophy such a situation is not present. You may talk about ethics or Dasein, but you always touch with it the nature of truth, and thus some permanent topics. You can not cut philosophy, like science, and ignore truth when you talk about beauty, but you can do that in science (you do not need thermodynamics when explaining relativity).
Philosophy has, of course, different areas, like science, but more connected. Which of this areas is to be highlighted depends on the circumstances, not an a priori divine disposition.
