Dr. Deniss Mazur, if the purpose is to promote the drug for consumption, advertising loses its social purpose.
The approach to the advertising of medicines should be only informative but not commercial. In addition to giving a wide information about side effects
Further: Pharmaceutical companies do not advertise prescription drugs to serve SOCIETY. They advertise prescription drugs to serve their own interests by trying to get consumers to pester their physicans to prescribe, for them, the advertised products. Prescription drug advertising placed by Pharmaceutical companies has NO SOCIAL PURPOSE.
Advertising placed by the FDA or Health Canada "may" have a social purpose. It depends on the reason(s) underlying the placement of the advertisements. But of course these social agencies only advertise to promote things like flu shots, immunization programs, etc. Never do they place messages for specific drugs.
