I know the origins, the nature and the conflicts of this relationship only selectively and insufficiently, but I am interested in information and discussion.
China has historically been inclined toward reaching out to other peoples mainly for commerce and trade. The construction of the Silk Road and popular merchants like Marcopolo of Italy are well founded proofs showing that the relationship has indeed been for real even though emphasizing a definite time interval would most likely be speculative and probabilistic.
The world's oldest civilization, the world's oldest civilization, has developed in the Tigris River, the Euphrates River Basin and the Nile River and Indus River Basin in Mesopotamia, and these regions and the Yellow River Basin far away to the east.
The civilizations in these four areas have many points of their own development, but they are not completely irrelevant.
As the patterns of the Neolithic clay pottery excavated in the four areas are very similar to each other, some scholars advocate the same origin theory.
Therefore, it is considered that the East-West negotiations had already begun before the history.
Cities need trade. Cities began to develop on rivers on rivers in the northern arid zone before 6,000 BCE, first on the Tigris and Euphrates, and then over the next thousand years or so on each of the other major rivers, from the Nile, Karun, Oxus and Jaxartes, to the Yellow River and the Yangste. As increasing numbers of people lived together in these urban growths, it was no longer necessary for each family to produce its own food. Some began to live by providing services to farmers, then by developing new skills and producing commodities. By the some time in the 5th millennium they began to look for trade with other cities, and networks of inter-urban trade began to develop all the way from what we now know as China through the area we now know as Iran into North Africa. Hence Laufer's Sino-Iranica. We have no written records until the late fourth millennium, just before 3000 BCE, when writing began to be adopted in Mesopotamia as an aid to trade.
If international trade, international economic cooperation, flow of capital and other factors of production, international scientific cooperation etc. develop, cultural exchange will also develop. However, in 2020, the development of this cooperation may significantly decrease due to the development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic causing Covid-19 disease.
Look at Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of China which connects China to more than 65 countries under Railways, Highways, Roads, Motorways and Sea route. It is a project of connectivity. The belt is connected with different nodes and the buckle of that belt is Gwadar.
China is envisaging to connect with Europe mainly called as Euroasia. The route will be for international trade, flow of capital and cultural exchange. Italy and Germany have already become a part of it. Due to Covid-19 there will be some delays,
