Technology has been termed as an essential evil. It has its fare share of Pros and Cons. Should it be integrated into the education system? Does it build students into successful researcher and academicians or it makes them lazy with little or no ability to think and innovate? What are the facts and figures supporting these claims?
Technology, just as you've stated has pros and cons. If not well controlled, it breeds a crop of students who are lazy, students who can't think for themselves and cheats in exams. Therefore, it should be regulated, more so within the educational system.
As an Instructional Designer, Educational Technologist and eLearning Researcher (also formerly an Physics lecturer and not so long ago a student) I can see the benefit of eTools and Emerging Technologies for the use of teaching and learning. The use of eTools should in incremental steps and not enormous steps.
The use of these various eTools all have its benefits for your teaching and learning profession. At first the lecturer should look at he's own circumstance and how these etool(s) can aid him or her. Also to take note that the students will also need training on these eTools.
Personally, I do believe that eTools and eLearning is the future of learning, but I also believe that face-to-face contact is also very important, hence a blended approach is so beneficial in this day and age.

We can not avoid to integrate ICT in education system per se. Trends are changing, the world is changing and there is a paradigm shift in the trends in the education system worldwide. After school the kid faces everything that is ICT compliant. I therefore support the integration of the same in the education systems. This is likely to model students whose career will emanate from ICT related activities
