Generally, it should be conducted for 8 weeks. But the vitamin-like Vitamin C deficiency effects start appearing after 5 weeks of a trial as we have observed it with Pangasianodon hypophthalmus juveniles at our Institute. But other vitamins which deficiency generally do not appear soon should be conducted for 8-12 weeks to see the visible effect of targeted vitamins.
In growth trial you can get the response of nutrients with in 6 weeks. But nutrients specially vitamins related study should be conducted atleast 12 weeks in order to seen the deficiencies sign.
It depends on the size of the fish. In order to get significant differences in treatments, juvenile fish should at least double its original mean weight by the end of the trial period. For small juveniles(a few grammes) this can be achieved within a few (4-6) weeks. For fish larvae even shorter trials should yield significant differences. In larger juveniles you will need to continue the trial for longer. In adult fish the situation is more complicated. Adult fish can accumulate lipid soluble vitamins in its liver and fatty tissues, so the previous history of the fish will make an impact, and it may take a longer time until significant differencesare achieved.
Depends on the fish, size, previous diets, age and what are you planing to measure. what endpoints are you measuring? can not give an exact answer but Juilo explains it well
Usually in nutrients requirement studies fish fry and fingerlings would preferred therefore, my question is pertaining to fry and fingerlings under controlled condition. However, I am not convenience that 4-6 weeks would provide any authentic answer related to the deficiency sign of vitamins. Yes you can determined the particular vitamin requirement of the fish on the basis of growth not deficiency sign which I think required more time to appeared. Thus my suggestion is that it should minimum of 10 weeks studies. Yes I do agree that it again depends upon the individual vitamins.
It should not be minimum 60 days (8 weeks) if the objective is framed to asses growth performance. If the objective is the effect of target on other parameters, 45 days (6 weeks) is sufficient.
Most studies have been pegged at 56 days where it is expected that the feed might have had some form of effects on the fish under consideration. However, it woulld be dependent upon the sort of vitamin being tested.
Minimum length to establish growth pattern for Fish is 8weeks (56days). However, depending on your objective, you could feed longer than the minimum time. Most impart factor Journal would recommend between 12-24weeks however. I hope this helps
I think it should more 12 week. Vitamins deficiency usually not too much affected on growth, however in some cases impaired growth and other deficiency related sign would only appeared after 3 to 4 months study.
