Hi everybody,

We are facing some challenges related to the injection of isotopic solution in our field. A little bit about our experimentation, we have access to different soil layers via an access tube (length 5m; diameter 15cm), and which is perforated at various soil depths (openings at 1,3 and 5m). Since the accessible soil edge / wall are used for multiple purposes, we could not drill into it, to insert ceramic cups for example. That is why, we are thinking of pressing a porous material (kind of fabric) against the soil edge / wall and soak such porous material with isotopic solution.

Thus my questions:

  • Does anyone have heard of similar way of diffusing isotopes – tracers into the soil?
  • Does anyone have advice on the type of porous material that would ensure a correct diffusion and contact with the soil edge / wall?

Also, feel free to discuss and comment our methodological idea if you see any constraint or limit to such injection /diffusion method.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Corentin.
