While preparing glass/kevlar hybrid laminate, would better structural properties be obtained by placing kevlar on the top and bottom or is kevlar better in the midplane?
Definitely do not place kevlar on any side with possible compression loads as kevlar fibers fail in buckling.
All depends on the loading conditions that your laminate will experience. What is expected?
Adding them on sides will help the laminate in absorbing more energy because of its high toughness.
Would you give more details about nature (almost bendingand, compression, impact, ...) level of loading?
If the hybrid composite structural component is going to work in bending, since the elasticity modulus of kevlar (about 130 GPa) is higher than that of E-glass (about 70 GPa), the bending stiffness will be significantly higher using kevlar at the top and botton layers, and E-glass in the middle surface.
