These fans convert rotational shaft work in to kinetic energy of fluid(air) and blades are designed in such a manner that it will rotate in a given direction.But has any one tested what will happen if the direction of rotation is reversed

A ceiling fan (Casablanca style) usually is quite symmetric, so he will blow an air stream against the ceiling. The comfort in the room will change significantly as the inlet flow field is rather different from the discharge flow field.
A ducted exhaust fan will push the fluid against the normal direction. The fan characteristic will be rather different, less effective. Stall may occur. The pressure losses of the duct system may change with the flow direction, as well.
There is no general answer. The result of your test depends on the flow system and on the fan.
In the ceiling fan the flow will be inlet flow and for exhaust fan flow direction will be changed.
If you change the orientation of a CPU fan either suction or blowing will result.
