What will happen if the earth stops rotating and what will be the effect on the value of g at a place if the Earth starts rotating at greater angular speed?
It wouldn't be good. At the Equator, the earth's rotational motion is at its fastest, about a thousand miles an hour. If that motion suddenly stopped, the momentum would send things flying eastward. Moving rocks and oceans would trigger earthquakes and tsunamis. The value of g is more at equator and is constant at poles and it decreases with the increase in the angular velocity of rotation of the earth.
