i think it should be education. unfortunately our media is much more focusing on politics (political-cum-noorakushti shows) bcz it generate TRPs. and the game is all about TRPs. soooooooooooooooo
There is no denying that education needs to be highlighted the most but unfortunately, media content is almost always focused on the political issues. Although politics is important but the scandals and conflicts going on should be avoided and greater focus should be placed on policy making.
I think that the media should focus on education. But others may say that is because we are teachers. They do not see education as 'exciting'. But education pays; there is already a thread on RG about this matter.
I see that more people are excited about politics, so the media focuses on that. Now if ALL politicians are very concerned about the people and about the nation as they should be, that's great! Then the politicians will do all that's in their power to improve the education. Because education PAYS :)
I believe the focus should be on education, and I'm not saying that because I am an educator. Education empowers people through knowledge and skills, allowing them to take more control of their future through better jobs, and ownership of grassroots reform that can enhance quality of life. Education is lasting. Once you have it, no one can take it away from you while politics can be fickle and changeable depending on who is in charge. However, I do feel that politicians who support education also end up supporting themselves by nurturing constituents who are better able to understand political issues and make informed choices. I agree that people are more excited to hear about politics, but if the media would focus on the connection between education and politics (the key word being "connection") it could be life changing for third world countries.
Political analysis is the key to understand the situation in the country and to evaluate the government properly and to make right choices.
But for this, education is a must so education is the root of the politics as well. People without knowledge and wisdom are cheated by bad governments through the values of ethnicity, religion, left-right or just by distributing coal and food when the election is approaching. Thus, such governments want to lower the education level so that they can convince people easily even though they manage the country badly. Especially, corrupted governments take this path so that public won't really understand what they do; instead, they believe what they say.
In contrast, knowledge and wisdom will bring the skills of deep thinking and analysing when selecting. So, the candidates will have to present proper principles and logical plans, and then the governments will have to work hard and improve the welfare of the country. Only then, they can get votes if the people are educated and wise.
In conclusion, I think both of them should be in the media. But education should have the priority so that the political news will be understood by people.
I think it depends on the context in the particular country being considered. For example, in some countries governance and the involvement of citizens is crucial as a way of addressing corruption and unequal distribution of benefits. This would point to politics being important to emphasize, but at the same time there are countries where turning up the political heat can make a difficult situation much worse. The context in a country changes over time as well - in some countries education has been pursued and literacy levels are high, but governance failures hamper the contribution of education to development; in other countries education still remains low, especially among women, and this acts as a brake on development in spite of a congenial political context.
