What will be the long-term effects of the development of artificial intelligence in terms of ethics, privacy and individual autonomy?
Dear Researchers, Scientists, Friends,
Artificial intelligence is developing at a rapid pace and has the potential to influence almost every aspect of life. What will be the long-term effects of AI in various fields, especially in terms of ethics, data privacy and individual autonomy? For the purposes of this discussion, I have formulated the following research thesis: as AI becomes increasingly complex and ubiquitous, it may lead to new challenges related to the protection of privacy, increased surveillance and the undermining of individual autonomy, especially in the context of machine decision-making. Therefore, the development of artificial intelligence can bring benefits such as improving the quality of life and process efficiency, but it also carries risks. An example of this is the use of AI in monitoring people, which raises questions about the limits of privacy. Furthermore, AI in decision-making, e.g. in courts or medicine, can pose a threat to individual autonomy if algorithms have a greater impact on human life than the person himself. There is therefore a need to develop ethical and technological regulations that will ensure adequate protection of individuals and their data.
I have described the key issues of opportunities and threats to the development of artificial intelligence technology in my article below:
