What will be the approximate shear displacement for corresponding peak shear strength of 12 cm granite block ? I tested 10% of total length of the sample!
Based on shear tests of 170 mm concrete replicas for granitic base geometry: For a well mated sample you can expect the peak before 1 mm displacement and the residual at 2-3 mm. For poorly mated samples there will not be a clearly distinguishable peak, but residuals can still be reached around 3-4 mm. Which testing method are you using?
I agree with 1 mm displacement.
In relation to the residual displacement the shear direction versus particle structure orientation could be a relevant aspect.
Precise exercise and data of Mohr-Coulomb peak strength envelope with shear strength parameters must be looked in to.
Variety of granite are available. If we want proper reply than we have to see the granularity, MSG analysis, micro-structures of the quartz grains of granite concerned with due preferred orientations.
