Kappaphycus alvarezii has been cultivated mainly as the source of carrageenan. Nevertheless, there have been few successful examples of value addition to its biomass (such as plant growth stimulant in India). I would like to know, if major carrageenan producing countries like Indonesia, Philippines and others have achieved value addition of biomass (fresh or dried) and if commercial products are available in domestic markets.
